The Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) Program is the most challenging and innovative Defence Project in South Australia and also one of the largest Defence Projects nationally. We are now seeking applications from people with procurement and/or subcontracts management/administration experience in a heavy engineering environment in the areas of fabrication, construction, manufacturing or defence backgrounds. Forming part of the Supply Chain team, this role involves the establishment and maintenance of contracts in the area of fabrication including the preparation of quotes and tenders and the placement of Purchase Orders. Liaising with and managing suppliers is a key aspects to this role as is the coordination and management of materials to and from the subcontractors. The ability to read/interpret drawings and information is also required. Previous use of an MRP system would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be able to manage conflicting priorities, multi-task and handle themselves professionally under pressure. The ability to demonstrate initiative and the flexibility in managing allocated tasks is essential. An understanding of Project Management fundamentals would be useful. Trade qualifications in a manufacturing discipline would be highly regarded as would knowledge of mechanical / structural fabrication. Engineering qualifications would provide a sound base for the execution of the job but is not essential. This role may require local and interstate travel so flexibility is essential. This role reports to the Fabrication Subcontracts Manager. Applicants must also be eligible for Australian Department of Defence security clearance.
